NCTM VISITOR CENTERROCK CREEK ELECTRIC RAILWAY |
Early residents of Chevy Chase purchased electricity generated by the Rock Creek Railway power house for lighting their homes between sunset and sunrise. Streetlights along Connecticut Avenue extended directly from the trolley’s electric poles, and the Chevy Chase Land Company provided lights on side streets and for its parks. The Land Company transferred the equipment and rights to supply electric service to the Potomac Electric Power Company around 1910.
