What a PCC Weekend at the National Capital Trolley Museum!

This past weekend, we celebrated PCC Weekend and the opening of our newest exhibit, “Building the Region: 50 Years of Washington Metrorail.” It was a fantastic weekend filled with historic streetcars, special guests, model railroading, presentations, and plenty of opportunities to explore our region's transportation history.

A special highlight on Saturday was the appearance of the Rosa Parks Bus from Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA), giving visitors the opportunity to see this important piece of Washington-area transit history up close and take photos with both the bus and our PCC streetcars. We are incredibly grateful to WMATA for contributing the bus for the day, as well as providing banners, pylons, and other materials that helped make the exhibit opening and PCC Weekend a tremendous success.

We were also pleased to welcome the National Capital Trackers, whose model railroad display added another exciting dimension to the weekend and gave visitors a chance to enjoy the world of model railroading alongside our historic streetcars.

We enjoyed fascinating presentations from museum members Matt Koch and Bill Monaghan, who shared their knowledge of PCC streetcars and their important place in American public transportation history.

Most importantly, thank you to all our volunteers, members, and staff who worked behind the scenes and throughout the weekend to welcome visitors, operate the streetcars, support the exhibit, and make PCC Weekend such a memorable event. We also appreciate everyone who joined us and helped make the weekend a success!

“Building the Region: 50 Years of Washington Metrorail” will remain on display at the National Capital Trolley Museum through January 2027. Come visit and explore the story of how Metrorail helped shape the Washington region!
