What You Support

Collections Restoration + Maintenance

Our living collection of historic street cars require constant maintenance, often including parts that are no longer mass-manufactured and are difficult or expensive to obtain. Membership helps support the expensive repair of one-of-a-kind objects that keep our street cars running.

In addition, our archive of thousands of documents, photos, and other objects related to street car history across the globe need special care and attention to ensure that they will last for generations to come. Materials, restoration work, and ongoing collections care rely in part on the generous support of members.

Public Programming + Operations

We embrace the communal nature of street car history by actively bringing the community together to celebrate and explore all of its aspects. Membership at NCTM supports the ongoing costs of running an electric railway, but also helps us support special programs such as All Aboard!, our monthly experiential learning series inviting children and families to engage with the science, art, and humanities of transit history. Other programs supported include scholarly lectures, model train shows, musical events, and our annual Holly TrolleyFest in December.

School Programs

Each year, we welcome hundreds of school children Pre-K through 6th grade to come face-to-face with living history. Our school programming is designed to challenge students to think critically and make connections between historic transit and their own lives, all while providing an experience they’ll remember forever! Your membership supports the materials for hands-on activities during these school programs as well as the costs associated with running our electric railway for around 100 students per program!

My sincerest thanks all of our members whose support has enabled the National Capital Trolley Museum to thrive and remain a force of public education for over 50 years! Thank you for your time, talents, and your dedication to advancing the humanities, science, and arts of transit history in Maryland and beyond. We are so happy to have you all as a part of our family.

With gratitude,

Brittany Lester, Executive Director
